What is it?
Supplier Failure Cover is a new type of holiday insurance
designed to protect you and your holiday plans if any supplier fails to provide you with their service.
It provides you with protection in the event that any component of your holiday should fail including us (Spirit of Travel Ltd), your airline or car rental company - regardless of whether they have been booked with us.
In light of the recent collapses of a number of large UK travel companies including XL Holidays and Zoom, Supplier Failure Cover is a must for anyone booking the components (ie flights, accommodation, car hire) of their holiday separately.
For example
Lets say you've booked a villa with Spirit of Greece, an ATOL protected charter flight through a travel agent and a car rental. If we, Spirit of Travel Ltd., ceased trading, Supplier Failure Cover would pay for replacement accommodation but if there was no suitable alternative available you would not only be able to claim for the cost of your villa but also for the flights and car hire.
If the tour operator running the flight or the airline itself failed then the ATOL scheme would pay for suitable alternative flights. If there were no suitable flights available then ATOL would be responsible for the cost of the flights while you can claim for the cost of the villa and car rental from Supplier Failure Cover.
What's so good about it?
In the past, while each component of a holiday may have had financial protection, if a component failed, the protection would have only covered the element that actually failed so you could end up with a villa booked and paid for but no way of getting there or flights booked but with no where to stay. Supplier Failure Cover acts as an umbrella and ensures that all elements are protected so you can be safe in the kowledge that should one element fail any other element affected by the failure is also protected.
What does it cover?
Basically should any component of your holiday fail you will be able to replace that component or, if replacement is impossible, be compensated for any financial loss that is not already covered e.g. by ATOL, by up to £5000 per person subject to a £50 excess.
