We're delighted to add the relatively undiscovered yet uniquely beautiful region of Pelion to our growing range of destinations. Gorgeous sandy beaches, dramatic mountain scenery and traditional mountain villages are just some of the many attractions that make the Pelion peninsula so special.
In the past it has always been quite difficult to get to but we've introduced an exciting solution - fly to Skiathos from where we then transfer you by taxi to Agia Eleni Beach and then by private motor launch (shared with other Spirit of Greece clients) across the sea to Katigiorgis, Pelion (15 minute crossing). If you are staying in Katiogorgis you can then walk straight from the boat to Avra Studios or if staying in Horto, a taxi will take you to your villa. Not only does this cut hours from the usual route via hydrofoil from Volos but it's great fun too!
Alternatively, you can now fly to Thassaloniki with British Airways and Easyjet from which it is a three hour drive to Horto and three and a half to Katigiorgis. Big savings can be made this way.
Horto hugs the Pagasitic Gulf shoreline with a cluster of houses, tavernas and a couple of minimarkets interspersed with beaches from which you can enjoy the remarkably clear aquamarine waters of the bay. A mountain stream cuts through the centre of the village, providing a natural mooring place for the colourful local fishing boats ensuring the tavernas are well stocked with the freshest fish. Horto is a quaint, simple village and is a delightful spot to rest yet in an ideal position for exploring the rest of the peninsula. For those wanting a little more life, the larger village of Milina is just 3km away where you'll find a wider selection of tavernas and bars although you could hardly describe the nightlife as vibrant.
For those looking for watersports and cycle hire, Pelion Sail and Cycle, based in Agios Andreas just south of Milina, offer dinghies, windsurfers, sea kayaks and bicycles together with training.
Katigiorgis, is a lovely little traditional fishing village clustered around a pretty sandy beach facing towards Skiathos at the foot of the peninsula. It has just two tavernas, a minimarket and some accommodation and we love it! If your looking for total relaxation in one of the prettiest locations with everything you need on your doorstep, then Katigiorgis could be the perfect choice. Our accommodation is simple yet has its own pool and stunning views and we think will suit romantic couples who simply want to get away from it all.
