Award winning beaches, picturesque harbours, medieval castles, therapeutic thermal springs, traditional villages, abundant wildlife, some of the best seafood restaurants in Greece and warm and friendly people - Lesvos is a very special place indeed.
All this, yet amazingly , both for our holidays and living expenses whilst you are there, prices are much less than other Greek islands. For example, a delicious traditional Greek meal is probably half the price you could expect to pay elsewhere.
Lesvos will appeal to those who appreciate the real Greece so together with our agent Alonia Holidays, we've designed a range of excursions reflecting the culture and traditions of Lesvos including feta cheese making, open air Greek night, donkey safari and BBQ cruise to name a few.
What's more, our agent owns a lovely traditional taverna in Molyvos and they are kindly offering all Spirit of Greece clients a free 500ml jug of wine with any evening meal for two.
Our accommodation is in Molyvos, once conquered by Achilles himself during the Trojan War and in Skala Kaloni, set on a huge bay with sandy beaches and possibly the best sardines in the world!
Molyvos
is an amazing town dominated by an impressive medieval castle. Narrow cobbled streets wind down to one of the most beautiful harbours in Greece with an array of excellent fish tavernas.
Molyvos has its own shingle beach but a few feet into the water it changes to soft sand. Turn around and you have the most magnificent view of the town and castle. Sunbeds are available for hire but behind the beach there is also a small park with a swimming pool and sunbeds making a pleasant alternative to the beach.
A couple of miles up the road are the hot springs of Eftalou with their therapeutic healing properties. Well worth a visit even if your back is in perfect working order. Nightlife is typically Greek but there are a few music bars and clubs for those that fancy a night on the tiles but don't worry, they're all well away from our accommodation and will not be a disturbance to you.
A holiday in Molyvos will appeal to those looking for the real Greece, unspoilt by tourism yet with more places of interest and activities to keep the most restless happy whilst at the same time being a haven for relaxation.
Skala Kaloni
sits in a lush and enormous valley that borders the bay of Kaloni. The bay itself is a marvel to behold. More like an inland sea then a bay, it is ringed by mountains on two sides and the fertile valley on the other. The sardines, for which Kaloni is famous for, are said to be the healthiest in the world.
Walking along the bay past the tidal pools full of crabs and fish, is very enjoyable in the spring and early summer, when a vast assortment of wild birds can be seen and is subsequently very popular with bird watchers.
The water is shallow and almost never rough and the beaches are very sandy with windsurfing being a particularly favourite activity. There are several restaurants along the shore and in the town square, along with supermarkets, hotels and shops.
Within the valley of Kaloni there are plenty of places to visit, not least among them is the town of Agia Paraskevis. The town is known for a festival in late June in which horses are raced through the streets past cafes full of people drinking and eating while bands play live Greek music. Nearby are the ruins of a classical temple to Apollo at Klopedi and the Kremasti bridge, made entirely of stone.
