Beautiful Kefalonia is the second largest of the Ionian Islands and will be familiar to many as the setting for Captain Corelli's Mandolin. It is an island of contrasts with stunning beaches, forests, imposing mountains, caves and lakes where both beach lovers and walkers will feel at home. There are also Roman, Venetian and Byzantine ruins for budding archaeologists to explore.
Kefalonia fits in perfectly with the type of destination we know our clients love. Tranquil, picturesque, traditional tavernas, stunning beaches and friendly locals. For those that like a break from "chilling" intrepid explorers can visit the famous Katavothres (swallow holes) in Lassi, Mellissani Lake and Drogarati Caves to name a few of the interesting sights on offer.
Our villas are
on the Liakas Peninsula near Spartia and in the enchanting village of Lourdas, both on the south coast of the island.
Liakas Peninsula, Spartia is where we have five premier three bedroom villas with private pools and stunning views overlooking the sea. See Liakas Waterfront Villas Twenty five minutes walk from the villas is the traditional village of Spartia which boasts a handful of tavernas, a couple of mini-markets and a lovely sandy beach. For local exploring you will find close by the Mycenaean tombs of Mazarakata dating back to 1200 BC, the monastery and museum of Saint Andreas, two Robola wine estates offering tastings of their produce and the Castle of Saint George which is also a perfect panoramic setting for romantic dining. It's a lovely area with an abundance of grapevines, fruit trees and olive groves not to mention beautiful beaches and excellent tavernas.
Lourdas
is an area of steep hillside which ends in a lovely beach of coarse pale sand. At the foot of Mount Ainos, the mountain acts as a huge windbreak creating an almost subtropical climate. The resort of Lourdas can refer to any part of the region from the village of Vlahata starting on the main Argostoli to Poros road and winding down through a rural landscape dotted with private and tourist accommodation, shops and tavernas to the main village of Lourdata with its natural spring, restaurants, tavernas and kafenion under the plane trees and then on to the beach.
Lourdas Bay is one of the largest bays of Kefalonia and is fringed by over two miles of sand and pebble beach. It is a wonderful place for walkers and hikers. Walking down to the beach, swimming in the amazingly blue sea with a backdrop of the impressive Mount Ainos with its pine forest and cypress trees, enjoying the views of the island of Zante in the south will all combine to make a truly relaxing holiday.
The few tavernas situated by the beach at Lourdas offer locally caught fish and vegetables grown on their own plots of fertile land alongside the beach.
If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday with an excellent beach, fine views, scenic surroundings and low key taverna based nightlife then Lourdas would be a perfect choice.
